In Memoriam for John Douglas CONNOR

Ten years ago today and at this exact time I was having my cancer surgery but I hadn't told you what it was as I didn't want you to worry. Sent you to Rutherglen Library to see the WW2 exhibition featuring Dad just to keep you busy.

Six years exactly to the day and hour I was conducting your funeral. It makes no sense. One of the last gifts you bought me which arrived after you had gone was Diana Ross 'Thank You'. Remember we went to see Diana Ross at the Apollo in Glasgow in the 1970s?

What can I say to you now but Thank You for loving me and for being the world's Best Big Brother and for being My Best Pal, always.

I am listening to the most beautiful music and singing at the BBC Proms just now. A lovely song Hope Is A Thing With Feathers by John Rutter. You had John Rutter's Celtic (Gaelic) Blessing 'Deep Peace' sung by Katherine Jenkins at your funeral for the commital-so beautiful.

I am following the Bhoys for you and doing my best to look after everyone and still "making a show " of myself (as you would say) in the papers! Dad's story in two of them last week so still scribbling.

May you hear all the beautiful music in heaven and find the peace that passeth all undertanding. You know the great secret now and are held in loving arms for eternity. Sleep on soldier. Safely held in angels' wings.

I am doing my best to keep singin' n dancin' as we always said. It's so hard without you. You were my rock. My strength and my safe harbour, my shelter from the storm. I hope you think I've done okay.

We have our paving stones together, our stars together in the universe and two wee trees growing bravely together in rich Scottish soil. I have kept my promises I made to you in the last letter I put into your hand that only you and I know about.

Night, night, love and fishes. Love to Mum and Dad. I know when my time comes you will come and meet me and we will all be reunited and singing in the heavenly choir.
