It was with real sadness that we heard of Penny’s death. In thinking about Penny now, I prefer to look back before her difficult final years, and remember all the good times we’ve had in the past.

Penny was my aunt, although as I only knew her as an adult, and she was the same generation as me, I never her thought of her as an aunt – just a special friend. I will never forget the first time I met her. My mother had invited Tony and Penny to come over for dinner, and the conversation flowed all evening. She was warm, witty and lively, and genuinely interested in everyone else’s lives. This was not a show for a first meeting - this was how she always remained.

Jane and I visited Penny and Tony in Truro numerous times, and she was always great company. When we went out on visits to places of interest, she brought her Blue Badge knowledge, never to show off, but just to enhance our enjoyment, and I am sure that this was how she was with all of her groups. We spent an especially memorable few days together on the Isles of Scilly. She organised everything not just efficiently, but in a typically unobtrusive and relaxed way.

Each time we met, we spent much time discussing the issues of the day, and she was always knowledgeable, and analysed the world in a reasoned and compassionate way, still finding time to be the perfect host, and to teach Jane how to knit socks!

More than anything, she brought so much happiness to Tony. She made his life complete, and their affection for each other was a joy to witness.

Penny was a wonderful human being, kind-hearted, caring, and a pleasure to have known. We will miss her greatly.

Tony
I was so sorry to hear that Penny has passed away.
I remember training for our Blue Badge Guide qualifications back in the 90's. The guided walks in Truro and Falmouth.
Also the tours from the cruise ships to various parts of the South West.
I am sure Penny will be sadly missed. Condolences to the family from the guiding community.

Dear Penny. What a lot of fun we had together in our teenage years. So sad but so honoured to have had you as my friend.
