Tribute to John

Having lived in Germany for the past 55 years, I didn't see cousin John very often, but when we did meet up I got to know him as a very kind and gentle person, always interested to catch up on our news. John was the member of the Humber family I knew best, as was Barbara, his sister, whose sense of humour was so infectious. (Cousin Yvonne and I were bridesmaids at her wedding.) John's mother, to patsy and myself, Auntie Joyce was my rock when our mother Betty passed away. I will miss John as someone who was always there in the Carpenter Clan. Our thoughts and love go to Irina. Jean and Wilhelm Frick

Memories of John go back to the early eighties and North Lincs Photographic Society where he organised several trips to the Lake District to take photographs. He later became President of the club. He married Irina and together they hosted many social gatherings and celebrations with family and friends at Tetney, including at Christmas, New Year (he was a formidable Quizmaster!) Birthdays, Anniversaries and everything in between! Then there were the journeys made, including trips to London, visiting attractions, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and musical theatre - ' Lion King', 'Phantom of the Opera' - not to mention afternoon teas at The Ritz and Savoy! Thanks for all the memories, John, and your enduring friendship. Love Janet and Cyril Mumby

MND is a cruel disease, and John did his best to overcome it, continuing to walk and talk, and join in festive meals, for much longer than we might have expected. It's good to remember all the family occasions when he rose to his feet to deliver a well-chosen address, and all the birthdays that he remembered with a carefully-chosen card. He has also left us Irina as a dear friend and part of the family. With love to her from Patsy and Colin.
