Marie JoséRIGBYRIGBY Marie José (Nee Thomas) Marie José of Rawtenstall, passed away on December 29 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 89 years.

Marie retired from her job as a market trader in Rawtenstall, selling quality biscuits and homemade cakes.
She previously worked as a secretary to Mr Tom Woodcock, Solicitor, where she enjoyed preparing financial reports for the commissioners of taxes (the old fashioned way). She also previously worked as a stewardess at Wilpshire Golf Club and a partner at Coopers Master Butchers, Bank Street, Rawtenstall.
Her first job was as a office junior at Co-op offices in Rawtenstall.
Marie's hobbies included researching her family tree, gardening, cross stitching, crosswords, reading, baking and her family. She was a lay preacher at Sion Baptist, town councillor (Conservative) in Cloughfold Ward.

Wife of the late John Rigby, Marie leaves behind her children David, Susan, Helen, John, Stephen and Julie, grandchildren Richard, Stacey, Sara, Ross, Scott, Theo, Charlie and Alexander and greatgrandchildren Aurora and Archer.

A service will be held on Friday, January 16, at Accrington Crematorium at 10.20am,
conducted by Rev Stephen Crook.

Goodbye Auntie Marie. I will always remember my Saturdays with you and the brood. I learnt a lot about being a good mum from you and remember lots of love and laughs. RIP. xx

I will remember Marie as an absolute force to be reckoned with but not in a bad way, she was always extremely kind and funny. My early memories of her are of that she was always working hard day and night looking after her family. Even with 6 mouths to feed she always made me welcome, setting another place at the table. Marie made the best Cut and Come Again cake and a mean trifle. I am extremely sad I wasn’t able to say my goodbyes personally but will always cherish my memories of her. Thanks to Marie I have 6 of the best friends anyone could ask for. God bless you Marie and thank you xxx
