EvelynWALSHEBorn in Bridgwater, Somerset, Jill was a long-standing resident of Oakwood, Derby, having previously lived in Matlock. Wherever she made her home, she was a deeply respected member of both her community and her church, where her Christian faith was the foundation of her life.

Jill enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career, including roles within insurance, with the Arkwright Society, and in Local Government in both Matlock and Derby. She took great pride in her work, particularly within the Policy Units, where her meticulous attention to detail and natural investigative ability, underpinned by a strong interest in local and family history, ensured she consistently delivered an exceptional standard of service.

A generous and compassionate individual, Jill devoted time to charitable causes, including collecting for DAB, and served as a qualified member of St John Ambulance. She had a great love of nature and animals, and her curiosity led her to travel widely with her daughters. Principled and inquisitive, she was always in search of truth and knowledge. She greatly valued education and continued to develop new skills throughout her life, including learning to play the piano. Always ahead of her time, Jill had a quiet way of setting trends rather than following them.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family, including her twin sister and her two daughters.

Jill's funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church, Crich on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at 11:00am followed by a burial in Crich Cemetery.

Donations made in lieu can be sent to Alzheimer's Society & Dementia Palliative Care Services, Derby.

Family request attendees to wear a "splash of blue in Jill's memory"

We were so very sad to hear of Jill’s passing. Whenever we met or spoke on the phone she was always full of enthusiasm for life and love for her family, especially of course for her pride and joy; her wonderful daughters Liz and Cauthe. It has been heartwarming to read these tributes to Jill and see how widely she was loved and appreciated. It is no surprise that mentions of her kindness, understanding and strength are to the fore, also her independence of thought. I remember Jill writing to us describing the wonderful letter of support she had written to the jailed Nelson Mandela, this was at a time when it was the not a popular thing to do, it was a brave letter to write from a kind, loving, independent woman. Jill will be greatly missed. Denis Anne Walshe and Family xxxxxxx

It was an absolute privilege to know Jill. I will always remember her incredible warmth & how I bonded with her as the one who gave me my treasured friend Cauth, as a fellow animal lover and how welcome she made me feel -despite the distance. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy, seen so clearly in her wonderful daughter. Sending my deepest love and thoughts from across the miles.
