John EdmundACEThe Ace Family wish to remember our late Father and loving husband John Ace who died on October 8th, 2021. Dad lived a full life and was 90. Dad left us with lovely memories and life lessons that we all carry on to this day. We miss his fun, wisdom and love... but we also feel his spirit with us everyday. Here's an extract from his Eulogy. "My Dad recalled the time he was sent from Oxford Street to Hook in Pembrokeshire adjacent to the Cleddau River during the war as many children were, in order to avoid the onslaught from the German Luftwaffe. Dad didn’t enjoy his experience here as an eight/nine year old. The family he stayed with were cruel and locked him in his room if they went out. He hated it. One day, in the market, I believe in Haverfordwest, Dad saw the William Hancock beer lorry. Dad had seen these lorries before as they used to drive past his house in Oxford Street. So, Dad, let go of the lady that was sheltering him and ran off and hid inside the beer lorry, behind the beer barrels. She couldn’t find him and as luck would have it, the lorry moved off. It was “The Great Escape”! Dad was well hidden and sure enough, the lorry finally made it back to Swansea. Dad jumped out by RavenHill Park then waited till dark in the park and then returned home. His Parents were angry to see him as they knew he would be in grave danger. But Dad pleaded with them not to send him back……and they didn’t. For him not realising the enormity of the danger as a young boy, he just wanted to be in his home. It showed that Dad had guts, determination, resolve and ingenuity to make such an escape…..especially at such a young age." God Bless you Dad xxx Love from, Dorothy your loving wife, Julie, Mark and Nigel and all Grandchildren xxx
