I have just stumbled upon this obituary notice by accident, when trying to check whether I had sent my Christmas letter to the correct email address. I am so shocked to learn of Peter's death.

Peter was one of my dearest friends — and Peter and Rosemary were wonderful friends to my wife, Kathryn, and family. I met Peter when we were both postgraduate students in Oxford. We spent several Christmases with Peter and Rosemary in Sandford and Crediton and they were unfailingly kind to our two children, Helen and Alison. I had hoped to catch up with Peter in 2026 when (for the first time in many years) I plan to return to the U.K. for a short visit.

I feel so sorry for Isobel and Daniel. I know, too, how thrilled and proud Peter was to become a grandfather.

With sincere condolences,

In loving memory of Mr. Allsop,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Allsop’s passing. He taught me over ten years ago, when he came to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Through his guidance, I was first introduced to the world of Western early music — a world that has profoundly shaped who I am today.

Just yesterday, I gave a recital on the harpsichord and fortepiano in New York, and it was then that I heard this heartbreaking news from another former student of his in Beijing. I couldn’t help but think of him, and how much I owe to those early classes.

Thank you, dear Peter, for opening the door and planting the seed. Your legacy lives on.

With heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
May he rest in peace.
