I worked with Andy and his wife Gwen at Lumsden Machine Tools in Gateshead during the late 1970’s. We were friends outside of work and they came to my wedding in 1984. Andy used his lunch breaks to teach and coach me to a distinction in my HNC engineering exams, after I had just scraped through ONC. I owe him greatly for my subsequent career in engineering. A highly intelligent, generous and patient man, great fun, dry humour. I moved to Derby in the 1980’s and now live in Cornwall - exchanging only Christmas card note catch ups which stopped when Gwen died. My wife Helen and I are deeply saddened to learn of his, Gwen’s and son Anthony’s passing. Very, very nice people. Thank you, rest in peace my old friend and mentor. Malcolm (& Helen) 2026 xxx
