HazelASHWORTH - WHITNEYHazel Ashworth - Whitney passed peacefully surrounded by her loving children on Wednesday, April 16. Born in Oldham on January 21, 1955, Hazel travelled to Australia by ship with her mum, dad, sister Heather and three brothers Bernard, David and Colin. Hazel returned with her family three years later to live in Bishop Stortford. Hazel later moved to the Rossendale area and had three children with her husband David Ashworth and raised her family in Loveclough. Hazel worked as a hairdresser in Hertfordshire whilst completing a City and Guilds in hairdressing and then at Pendelfin in Burnley, hand painting the rabbit ornaments before becoming a very hardworking mother to her three children. Hazel later returned to work at Abbey Croft Nursing home in Loveclough where she enjoyed working in the laundry, always trying to brighten the residents’ days with little acts of kindness where she could. Hazel loved being a mother and was a best friend to and much-loved by all of her children. She is survived by her children Mark, Kathryn and Sean Ashworth; her biggest little fan - her granddaughter Evelyn Fairclough; her siblings Heather Lytle and David Whitney; many cousins, nieces, nephews and their lovely children and her friends. Hazel was creative and a very talented painter who loved watercolour painting throughout her life and later developed a love of crocheting, much to the joy of her granddaughter who acquired many new teddies. Hazel had a heart of gold and was always there to listen and to talk. She had a wicked sense of humour and was never happier than when chatting to family or a friend over a glass of wine… or three. There will be a service held at Accrington Crematorium Chapel on Friday, May 9, at 11.40am followed by a wake at the Peel Park Hotel Accrington from 12.30pm. Family, friends and anyone who knew Hazel are welcome to come and say goodbye and celebrate her life with us. Hazel would want us all to have as good a time as we can under the circumstances so please feel free to wear whatever you’re comfortable in, black is optional. Family flowers only. Any donations can be made to Asthma + Lung UK.
