Gay spent her formative years living in Onslow Village, Guildford, was a pupil at Rydes Hill and Merrow Grange Convents and at Farnham Girls Grammar School.
In the early 1960's she emigrated to the USA, an adventure and to pursue her secretarial career.
In 1964 she married Bob Kayton in Massachusetts, and they went on to have two children Bradley and Bonnie. However following their divorce, she returned to the UK to Guildford where she met and in 1989 married Ian Atkinson.
Following Ian's death in 2006, Gay emigrated back to the States, where she eventually moved close to her daughter and family in Virginia and in due course acquired her American Citizenship. She died on 5th April 2026, aged 82, at a care home in Gainesville Virginia, following a short illness.
Gay will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren Geoffrey, Brady, Hailey and Lindsey.
Friends are warmly invited to join Gay's family at a Memorial Service to celebrate her life which will be held at 12.00 noon on Monday 13 July 2026 at the Guildford Crematorium Chapel, New Pond Road, Godalming GU7 3DB.
