I wasn't aware of Mr Atlay's passing reading his obituary today. I am truly saddened yet immensely grateful for the genuine physical & emotional care he provided me as a patient in 1996. He empathetically paved the way for me to begin my journey to motherhood at the Women's Hospital, Liverpool and during that time, he was the only medical professional who really heard me and helped me to move forward with that.
I will be forever thankful for his kindness, his understanding & professionalism, by speaking of & remembering him often with fondness and gratefulness. Continue to sleep peacefully Mr Atlay, you made such a positive difference to so many in this life and I hope to see you again in the next.

Sad news and a life lived to the full
Worked together at Mill Road where you encouraged and supported midwives and students. We also served in the English National Board Midifery Committee where our scouse humour and common sense was needed.
You encouraged my career in teaching and later in expert witnessing. I thank you and send condolences to your family.

He was such a wonderful man who stopped me from being a cardiologist and persuaded me to join him as a junior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. I have never looked back. I have been a consultant in Manchester for over 20 years and can still hear his wise words that guided me both professionally and personally along my way. Thank you. My thoughts and love go to Jean and the family and I am sorry that I can’t be there today. Andrew Pickersgill
