JohnAUTHERSONKay Autherson sadly announces that her husband John passed away on 22nd December after a short stay in Coventry Hospital.

John and Kay first moved to Teesside in 1966. They lived in Hutton Rudby from 1985, until recently when they relocated to Rugby to be closer to family.

John was heavily involved in Hutton Rudby village life, along with the Teesside chemical industry, EPICC and Middlesbrough college.

He was greatly loved and is sorely missed, already.

Further details of funeral arrangements will follow at a later date.

I was so sad to hear that John had passed away. I wanted to send condolences to you Kay and the rest of your family. I moved to Hutton Rudby with my young children in 1987 and I knew John and Kay as people who were warm and welcoming to newcomers like myself. I lived opposite the village hall and soon became involved in the choral and dramatic society where I was welcomed with open arms. John and I were in stage together in the pantos, plays and reviews and he was always full of energy and fun, an absolute tonic to all he came into contact with. I moved away from the village and lost touch but then he directed a play I was in in 2013 ish and made me feel a part of the gang again. Kay and John were always kind and thoughtful and supported all of the village events, kings kid etc. Ive got so many happy memories and of course photographs of happy memories of our times together. Sending much love to those closest to John.

I first met John when I joined Middlesbrough College as a Governor in 2013. I cannot thank John enough for his guidance, the tempo and culture he set as a key member of the Governing Body of Middlesbrough College. When I became Chair in 2015 John, in spite of his many years of service to the college, agreed to stay on and support me in my early years as Chair.
John chaired our Audit Committee with humour, challenge and professionalism. He was also instrumental in transforming the colleges approach to health and safety.
Rest in peace John and thank you, it was a pleasure and a privilege to know you
