JohnBARCLAYIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Barclay, of Newchurch, aged 76. John passed away on Monday, May 2, peacefully at Pendleside Hospice, after a long battle with illness. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the district nurses, palliative care nurses, and Blackburn chemo unit. We will be eternally grateful to every member of the Pendleside Hospice team who treated John and our family with dignity, care, and compassion. We couldn’t have got through it without the support they gave us. John worked in the building trade for more than 50 years, and was well known for his work with random stone. He worked for many companies in and around the valley. John enjoyed spending time with his family. He had many happy holidays in Cornwall and later in North Wales - a place he loved. He spent many happy hours pottering in the garden. He took up watercolour painting when he retired. He also enjoyed a good pub quiz with friends. He leaves wife Kirsten, sons Paul and Dave, daughter Johanna, daughter-in-law Kerry, son-in-law Colin, grandchildren Max, Zach, Toby, and Eddie. The funeral will take place on Thursday, May 19, at 2.30pm at Burnley Crematorium, with reception at Rawtenstall Cricket Club. Family flowers only; donations to Pendleside Hospice online at www.fredhamer.co.uk along with tributes. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Services, Rawtenstall.

John, though I met you only a handful of times you were always the rock in the room, standing strong for your family. It was a pleasure to know you and a privilege to be friends with your family.

My thoughts are with you on your final steps to that castle in the sky John. All the best.
