DesmondBARNETTFormer President of the Welsh Rugby Union

On Monday 9 June 2025 at 4:55pm, Desmond passed away peacefully and surrounded by family. He was 91 years old.

Desmond leaves behind his wife Elaine and his daughters Joanne and Sharon. Desmond was a proud grandfather of Rosie, Evie, Jacob, Amelia and Clara and a loving great-grandfather to Myla and Luca.

A service will be held on Tuesday 8 July 2025 at 2:15pm at St. Peter's Church, Pentre followed by final goodbyes at Glyntaff Crematorium at 4:00pm. Thereafter, all are welcome to join the family to celebrate the life of Desmond at The Rhondda Suite, Heritage Park Hotel at 5:00pm.

The family kindly ask that formal attire is worn with a splash of red for Wales or wearing the tie of the organisation you represent.

Family flowers only, but if you would like to make a donation, a collection box will be available during the funeral. Alternatively, a Just Giving page has been set up in Desmond's memory https://www.justgiving.com/page/desmondbarnett?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

All proceeds will be shared between Velindre Cancer Care and WRU Charitable Trust.
