I worked with John Barr as his School Secretary in the years before his retirement from Claremont Primary. Without doubt, the best boss I've worked for. He was always so appreciative of my work, and supportive to my family and I. He gave me a chance when I hadn't worked for a while after having my children, and I will always be grateful. RIP Mr Barr x

Without doubt, the best sports coach i ever had. In 1966 he coached our first year rugby team, at The High School of Stirling. In those days we played private schools like Dollar, Glasgow High, Heriots etc as well as comprehensive schools. Under John's management we went the whole year unbeaten, something John was immensely proud of. I later played golf with John at Dunblane, and we he would remember "his team" with great affection. During training, his popular phrase for anyone slacking was " You haven,t got time for a cup of tea and a scone - get moving" lol
He will be sadly missed

Many happy memories of our days at Claremont Primary school. As well as teaching duties John helped with Thistle Awards after school on the playing fields and on sports days we had to have proper sports with stop watches etc. With his office door always open and hearing me walking quickly along the corridor he would call out, "Remember to slow down and smell the roses Mrs Thomson." Every time I hear a Tracy Chapman song I remember him. He said that Lindsay had introduced him to her music. Sleep well John.
