*Mick was a long-term supporter of the Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust (TBLT), who are the custodians of ex-London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) B1 Class steam locomotive number 61264.
The B1 class would have been a familiar sight to Mick in his younger trainspotting days,
and 61264 is one of only two of them left in existence, the rest of the 410-strong class having been consigned to the scrapheap in the 1960s.
TBLT are currently raising money to overhaul 61264 for use on the Great Central Railway and on the UK mainline, with the aiming of returning it to operational condition so that the next generation of railway
enthusiasts can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of steam.

G’Dad (as you always signed off on text) ❤️
I’m really missing our detailed breakdown of every detail you ever needed (or didn’t need) chats and us putting the world to rights. Dishwasher wars, plant advice, and being able to pop in and see you for a coffee. I know those chats across hours made us both smile, and I know you also needed a long nap afterwards 🤦‍♀️😭 I miss your trip advisor & staff reviews of every hospital and care setting you went to, each worse than the last 🤷‍♀️ I am so glad my role was solely to keep you smiling and that I didn’t have the more adult role of the medical stuff (I would have needed proper adult advice on that) and you may have ended up in some worse cupboards than you did.
It was a privilege and honour to be able to spend so much time with you ❤️ I just wish we could have got you better as we and Nan all wished we could have, more than anything in the world 🙏 I will miss your advice (which I did listen to) and listening to your memories and life experiences, your work and childhood. Thank you for everything you did for us across the years- although we didn’t see and appreciate it then, we were so lucky to have you as our Grandad. I hope that you are now pain free and with Nan pottering in the garden, watching the chase with a gin and lemon fizz, watching steam trains, reading the paper, doing your crossword or playing solitaire. I hope you look down on us telling us off for paying someone to do our DIY & never having any money.
I’m sorry for all the times I wheeled you into walls & doors, fell over you, kicked your foot, ran tables over it and nearly disconnected your urine bag being clumsy.
I hope I can take on your physical and mental strength, determination, humour and mindset. The love your friends, colleagues and family have for you is testament to the brilliant man that you were. You have had such an amazing life & achieved so much, we are proud to be your family.
Sleep tight now (cat head rub) love always, Gem 💓
