SheilaBIRTWISLESheila Birtwisle, née Royle, died peacefully at Turfcote with her husband Richard by her side on Wednesday, August 3, aged 78. Sheila leaves husband Richard, son Peter, daughter Claire, son-in-law Gary and daughter-in-law Barbara. She was a much-loved Grandma to grandchildren Ryan, Lucas, Thomas and Scarlett. Born in Huddersfield in 1944, the middle child of Jessie and Peter, Sheila also leaves brothers David and John, their wives Wendy and Fran, and brother-in-law Paul and his wife Ann. Sheila and Richard got married in 1970 and moved to Ventnor Road, Haslingden in 1976. She was a primary school teacher for many years, teaching for shorter periods at several schools in the Rossendale Valley, and in particular at Britannia County Primary School as it was then, in Bacup. Sheila was an active member of Haslingden Methodist Church and until recent years enjoyed the outdoors, rambling with friends, and ballroom dancing, as well as taking holidays with Richard to appreciate new cities and beautiful views. She was also a dear friend to many and will be much missed. Her family would like to thank the care team at Turfcote Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the last two years. Her funeral will be held at Haslingden Methodist Church on Monday, August 22 at 12noon, preceded by a committal service for family and close friends at Accrington Crematorium.
