Dr Simon GregoryBOTTOn Wednesday 11th February 2026, Simon passed from this life and went home to be with the Lord. After a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease, he had battled the illness for 11 months, and was happy to spend his final days in his home with his family. The family grieves his loss terribly, but with the hope that they will see him again someday.

Simon was the loving husband of almost 30 years to Angie, father of Alexandra and Connor, father-in-law to Barak, Grandad to Clara, Evie and Desi, and brother to Adrian, Paul and the late Julian.

Simon spent a long and illustrious career as a University Professor of Chemistry, and influenced the lives of countless, students, colleagues and friends. His presence will be sorely missed and he leaves a remarkable legacy after only 63 short years.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday 28th February 2026, where a public service will be held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, the Kingsway, Swansea at 12:15pm, followed by committal at Llanelli Crematorium at 3:00pm.

Family flowers only, by request, donations, if so desired, can be made in memory to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) or Ty Olwen at Morriston Hospital, Swansea via funeral-notices.

All enquiries can be made to David Monk-Roberts, Funeral Director, Phillip G. Davies & Son Independent Family Funeral Directors, Cockett, Swansea. Tel: (01792) 581924

So sad to hear of the passing of Prof Simon or the Prof as we knew him. He was a regular passenger on the "little early morning bus" and a great conversationalist, yes, even at that early hour. A lively informative chat was guaranteed up to his stop at the University. May he rest in peace. He will be remembered fondly by so many people . Sincere condolences to his family.

We did not often meet up, but I look back with great fondness to a meeting twenty months ago with Simon, Angie and Connor. Sincere condolences to Angie and Connor and also to Alexandra, Paul and Adrian.
With love,
Graham and David Bott

I thank Simon for all that he has given me. The feeling of belonging, the space to talk, the space to doubt and the space to not only grow my knowledge but as a person too. As a clueless 17-year old who aspired to go to university, I'm beyond grateful to have been given him to guide me. I couldn't have asked for anyone else, I feel truly so lucky. He has left me in the hands of some truly great people, but I wish he was still there to turn to. I know in faith that he is, so I look forward to how he will guide me in the future. Simon, I know you'll be watching, and I hope the pride you had in me will only continue to grow. Thank you for feeling like family and all you have done. I'll make sure you're legacy lives through me, in all your quirky ways!
