Jack NewmanBUTCHERJack died peacefully on Saturday 22 November 2025, aged 94.

Much loved husband to Janet, father to John and Kate and grandfather to Aurelia.

Jack will have been known to many in and around Birmingham. He was a teacher at Alderlea Boys, Hodge Hill Secondary, and Mount Pleasant Secondary and then the Deputy Director of the Education Development Centre/Professional Support Services for Birmingham LEA. Outside work over the years he was a member and Elder at Digbeth-in-the-Field United Reformed Church, Chairman of St. Peter's College Old Salts' Association, Vice-Chairman of St. Peter's (Saltley) Housing Association, a trustee of St. Peter's Urban Village Trust, Chairman of Birmingham Hospitals Broadcasting Network, compère for Canoldir Male Choir, producer of the Midlands Festival of Remembrance and a member of Warwickshire Watercolourists.

A service of thanksgiving for Jack's life will be held at Sutton Coldfield United Reformed Church on Thursday 18 December at 1 pm.

Family flowers only please. Donations in Jack's memory to the NSPCC and Great Ormond Street Hospital can be placed in the collection box on the day or made online via Ian Hazel Funerals website.
