So sad to learn of the passing of Bill Carroll. We were both Billy when I knew him. We met when Bill’s family took over the management of ‘The Ellison Arms’ on Ropery Walk, just off Pottery Bank. My family lived in a prefab on Pottery Bank, very close to the pub. We both joined St Anthony’s church choir and would run up to choir practice on a Thursday evening together and most weekends would find us on the Tyne banks and shore or, on a Saturday afternoon, watching NUFC at St James Park. This would be the mid to late 50s. Great innocent times.
My condolences to all of his family and those who knew him.
