I cannot believe it has been 10 actual years since we stood together, our hearts breaking, as I watched you take her last breath and we said our goodbyes.
Ten years on, it still doesn’t feel real. I didn’t believe it was happening then, and somehow, I still can’t quite believe that it happened. How can it really be ten years since I last heard your voice, held your hand and told you I loved you?
My life changed forever that day, Mum. It has never been the same without you. A part of me went with you when you left, and there will always be a part of my heart that belongs to you.
What a cruel world this can be. You were taken from me far too soon, and no amount of time will ever make that feel fair. Ten years have passed, but I still miss you just as much. I still have moments when I want to pick up the phone and call you, tell you something that has happened, or simply hear your voice. Then I remember that I can’t, and that feeling never gets any easier.
I wonder so often what life would have been like if you were still here. All the things you would have seen, the memories we would have made and the moments I wish I could have shared with you. I wish you could have seen the person I’ve become and everything that has happened in my life especially getting married last month. More than anything, I wish I could have just one more day with you.
I’ve had to learn how to live without you, but I will never learn how to stop missing you. You are still such a huge part of me, Mum. Your love, your memories and everything you gave me will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Ten years without you, Mum, but not a single day goes by without me thinking of you or missing you.
I love you more than words could ever explain, and I always will.
I miss you every single day.
All my love, always.
