Autumn is all about colours – while Winter is all about cold. Yet Spring is the start of new life and Summer sweet moments to hold.

SEA – SAND AND SUN

Golden sand – reflection of the sun
And the sea has a glint in its eye!
Like a thread of gold, it touches your heart-
And gives meaning to a sigh -
Lapping at your golden tan -
Like a lullaby -
Listen and you will know why.
Above each sound a seagull cry -
And when the day has spent its youth -
And time to rest once more -
Look back and soak the beauty in
From that golden sunny shore!

SUNNY SALAD DAYS

No more stews and casseroles -
Piping hot and spicy ting -
The oven cools and out we bring -
The salad leaves and beetroot whole -
The dips –that flip – the crunchy dish -
That gives your thoughts a moment’s wish -
To savour taste – nothing to waste.
Enjoy it with both meat and fish -
And even radish has a trick
To repeat and then repeat -
And if you’re slow – not nippy quick -
The mustard cress will bite your feet -
Enjoy the muzzing and the buzzing -
Hazy, lazy days of fuzzing -
Strolling, rolling forever calling
To the green, green grass so sweet
That lives beneath your feet!

Snowdrops and crocuses – they herald the Spring while the beauty of a rose gives us Summer. The chestnuts and red fire welcomes Autumn – but winter – stays asleep.

St. GEORGE’S DAY

Strange that our very own noble Saint belongs to others too -
He came from Persia and many a town that serves all Europe true -
He is also the saint of the Una tales -
And was a very brave man -
But was there really a dragon?
Please tell me – know all you can!
The cross: Red on white -
Or is it the other way -
It was his before we took it
To be our emblem to stay.
He is also the patron saint of scouts -
So be prepared – do your best -
And when a dragon reappears -
Face the beast – Pass the test!

HOT CROSS BUNS

No longer one a penny – two a penny
And hardly any spice -
The cross that’s placed upon them -
Doesn’t taste half as nice -
Today – nay yesteryear.
Feed them to your daughters
But that would not be right
Obesity and plumpness is
Every child’s plight.
Feed them to your strapping sons
And see them from the start.
Begin the downward journey
To a nasty working heart.
So, take care when taking a bite
Do not indulge too far
Enjoy the hot cross bun –
Just one -
Then walk -
Omit the car.
