DorothyDARBYSHIREMrs Dorothy Darbyshire nee Hardiker, of Edgeside, Great Harwood, died peacefully at home with family present on Wednesday, May 12, aged 94. Beloved wife of the late Norman Darbyshire, she leaves daughters Susan and Judith, sons-in-law David and the late Mick, grandchildren Nicola, Duncan, Paul, Katherine, Joanna, and Andrew, great-grandchildren Chloe, Ella, Emily, Emma, Lily, Fraser, and Louie. She was also a much loved Auntie and sister-in-law. Dorothy ran Darbyshire’s Sweet Shop with her sister-in-law Maureen, on Queen Street, Great Harwood, in the 50s and 60s. She was an administrator for the Accrington Observer newspaper, formerly Jack Clough’s Printers, Church Street, Great Harwood, in the 60s, until retirement in 1985. She was a parishioner of Our Lady’s and St Hubert’s and St Wulstan’s Churches, Great Harwood, and visited Lourdes a number of times with the church. Even at a good old age, Dorothy liked her iPad and mobile phone. Her favourite games were Wordscapes and crosswords, and she achieved level 1,000. She liked Radio Lancashire breakfast programmes, watching the birds, and visits from her family and carers. The funeral service and burial will take place at Our Lady and St Hubert’s Church. Due to current government restrictions, a private funeral service will be held for immediate family and invited close friends. Dorothy liked colours, so people are invited to dress accordingly. Family flowers only please; these have been arranged.
