WalterDAVIESMR Walter Davies, of Irwell House, Waterfoot, died on Saturday, July 27, aged 97, at Pendle Community Hospital, Nelson. He had worked for Scapa Porritt prior to his retirement. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially snooker, and played football as a young man. During the war whilst serving in the Irish Guards he played football for Crystal Palace. He was a member of the Royal British Legion and also Rawtenstall Cricket Club, where he was a committee man for 28 years. He was a very well-known singer and entertainer in Rossendale, Burnley and Bury. He leaves sons John, Robert and Brian, daughters-in-law Elaine, Catherine and Christine, together with grandchildren Keeley, Natalie, Alex, Christopher, Liam and Martin. He also leaves greatgrandchildren Mia, Alyssa, Eleanor, Myles Henry, Alexi and Luciano, together with granddaughters-in-law Katie, Hilary, and Lynda, and grandsons-in-law Lee and Loris. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 8, at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, however donations, if preferred, requested to the Royal British Legion.
