Kathleen MarjorieDEWEYSadly, passed away on 23rd June 2025 at the age of 82 at Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Kate was born at Beeston, raised at Eastwood and Bilborough, Nottinghamshire, England. She attended Mundella Grammar School in Nottingham and further developed her education at York University and Leicester. Kate took great pride in her Eastwood heritage being a descendant of Arthur ‘Tater’ Leivers and cousin of the funeral director William Leivers.
Kate became an Art Teacher and taught in The Bahamas, California, New Zealand, Hucknall and settled in Canada for over 40 years, passionately teaching art.
Kate was very active in her community. She was a Director for the Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Associations. She also campaigned to protect the Sand Dunes near her home in Tiny Township, Ontario by sitting on the Dunes Restoration Advisory Committee. She received the Corrie Hamelin Memorial Community Volunteer Award in 2017.
Despite having great interest in education and development, the meaning of ‘retirement’ may have been overlooked as she continued to teach High School, she became a Yoga and Pilates instructor and acted as a Health and Safety Officer with the School Board well into her 70’s.
Kate is survived by her nieces, Sarah and Elizabeth, their Mother Marion and Lucy the cat. Her passion for life fostered deep long-term friendships with Janet Herron for over 40 years and Theron, a high school art student and dear friend.
Kate had chosen Trivedi’s as her family and has spent 17 years or many years as an integral member of the family, who were all devoted in her care when she became ill.
Kate’s Celebration of Life will take place this Autumn, location to be determined.
Charitable donations are welcome at Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Mouth and Foot painting, Indigenous Girls and Operation Eyesight.
