I was sitting in reception on my first day in 1976 as a trainee accountant at Thornton Baker when I spotted Peter (with whom I had been drinking at our local rugby club with two days earlier), I was mortified to find out he was to be my boss throughout my 4 year training contract. Later that first day, he called me to his office and we agreed that “what happens at Gosforth, stays at Gosforth”. He became my mentor and guide which lead me into a 50 year career in accountancy (as well as a 9 year stint as a successor Hon Treasurer at Gosforth).
I am not the only one who benefited from his guidance at Thornton Baker (later known as Grant Thornton), there are many who owe their careers to this pretty special man.
Thank you from all of us Peter, you are with Sylvia now RIP.
