MargaretDIXONSilence That Train!
Silence that train of whistle and steam,
Turn back the clocks, return my dream,
Send industry's smoke from chimney to sky,
On blue in white paint I.C.I.
Crank tight the blades of turbines fast,
Calm waves, dry flumes; rebuild the baths,
And pane by pane put back to truth,
The arch that was the station's roof.
Tear out red seats from terraces cold,
Erase from signage the lettering bold,
That misnames the buildings on airport and schools
And back to league status put Darlo and Pools.
Rekindle the High Street and let it remain,
Let the length of it bustle with custom again,
On air float aromas of baking from Spark's,
Fill the shelves, stock the freezers and open up Mark's.
Let me colour the fading of yesteryear's ways,
And unblur the vision of halcyon days,
Let me live in the memory of childhood in bloom,
Let me restock my empty; let me empty my gloom.
She's my force, my soothe, my ease, my best,
My pardoner unwavering for all that I messed,
For in life and in passing no bond be undone,
More great than that joining a mum and her son.
Happy Mothers' Day, Mum x
