The obituary notice of Dennis Joseph DOUGLAS

So sad to learn of Dougie's passing. I knew Dennis from St. Joseph's. Sometimes I'd go to Dennis's with my packed lunch from school and we'd listen to his brothers records. Always a warm welcome. I can still remember the race to pass our driving tests all those years back. Dennis beat me by a bit. I can still picture his grinning face when he pulled up at my Mums to take me out for a spin in his brothers Morris Marina. I think it was blue. Den was a great fellow who struck me as being much more of a Christian than most of the folk who went on about it.

Dennis was my first "best friend" in primary school. We must have been 7 or 8 when I asked my mum if he could come over for dinner. Our friendship was forged at the Hill kitchen table!
Years later we spent every day of summer together: camping in the Hensley's back yard, then pea shooters, stunts on our bikes, football games, go-cart building, trips to Pex Hill and countless cups of tea at 10 Shakespeare Rd. It seemed as if those summers would never end. The Douglas family were always very welcoming. High school flew by and we had very few classes together but our friendship was renewed for a year or two at North Cheshire College or Padgate as it was known. Then we were both off on our separate ways, Dennis traveling to Europe and then myself to America via Africa. I last saw Dennis about 16 years ago and Mrs. Douglas had kind words for me when I saw her at St. Bede's for my mums funeral. four years ago.

To the Douglas family please accept my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your loving son and brother. Please also know that I will take a little to remember you in thoughts and prayers on Tuesday the 21st.

Dennis was my mate when we were kids, I met him when I was about 4. Our families go back a long way, he was a kind, generous, happy guy. I remember playing cricket, rugby and football alongside him on the wade deacon fields, we thought those summers holidays would last for ever... I will miss you Dennis. God bless. Ian Glover
