Irwin George HughFERRYDied peacefully at home on August 18, after a short illness, aged 88. Irwin first worked as a reporter for the Worthing Herald and the Hendon Times before eventually joining the Surrey Mirror as features editor, working his way up to become editorial director for the Surrey Mirror group. His early days in journalism included writing theatre reviews, he also wrote for Tommy Cooper, worked in advertising and wrote the theme tune for the TV sitcom "Tell It To The Marines" with his brother Phillip, with whom he often collaborated. He came from a musical background, his father co-wrote "We'll Meet Again" and many other wartime hits. Irwin was the founder of the highly successful, award-winning Surrey based tour operator Titan HiTours, where he was chairman up until his retirement. The company specialised in escorted coach tours by air to destinations worldwide. The travel firm enjoyed enormous popularity and growth and was renowned for its high level of service. Whenever he could, Irwin would return to his real passion in life, that of song and script writing for theatre, staging musicals and pantomimes well into his later years. He is survived by his beloved wife Irene and stepdaughter, his three children and five grandchildren
