GeraldFINNMr Gerald Finn, 87, of Willows Lane, Accrington, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, September 14, at Wellfield Care Home, Accrington. Devoted husband of Marjorie, much loved and respected dad to Hugh and partner Rosalind, Karen and husband John, and Andrew and wife Jacqui, cherished grandad to Tom, Rhiannon, Catherine and Jessica, and step-grandad to Jane and Phoebe. Gerald was the eldest of seven siblings. He was called up for RAF National Service and continued a long distance relationship with his future wife Marjorie, whom he married shortly after his demob. Gerald spent most of his life living and working in and around Accrington. He spent many years at Platt Saco Lowell, followed by Gaskell Broadloom Carpets of Rishton, where he made many international friendships that survived into retirement. For holidays and in retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Marjorie, family and friends, taking frequent trips through France and Spain in their caravans, where his fluent French and Spanish were put to good use. He was a well-known crown green bowler in which he excelled in the 1970s, winning many local competitions including the Accrington Observer Handicap Trophy. He was also a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder of Accrington Stanley. Family and friends were important to Gerald and he always looked forward to gatherings and barbecues in his garden, where he would enjoy good food, good wine, good company and of course good cheese. The family wish to thank friends and family for the many cards and condolences received. The funeral service will be confirmed by the funeral home.
