What memories we have of Gordon, a good friend to my late Father, Philip Lancaster. Watching Gordon, my Dad, and Derek wander down to the Field Head for a beer or 2 was like watching characters from ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ …opinions and characters creating for a very interesting Bull S!@t corner. Never was Gordon backwards at coming forwards in wanting to buy you a pint…which later became a Newcastle Brown to be finalised with some strange Belgian beer….Quak! …or a single malt…😏Marsden Jazz Festival was always illuminated by Gordon’s presence (thanks Bernard for getting him there). He, and we enjoyed both the Swing Commanders and the Gelatos…Gordon’s passing is the end of the oldies I remember …(nice picture and happy memories, not sad ones)

It is probably over 55 years ago when I last saw Mr Fryer, for that is how children addressed ‘grown ups’ in those days. He was our next door neighbour. I remember Julie being brought home from hospital as a newborn baby and as a little girl ( maybe 5 or 6) I was besotted with her. Gordon and Joan were perfect neighbours and I remember Gordon as a happy man always smiling and full of fun. He managed to get the Beatles’ autographs for my sister, Bev, when they came to Huddersfield. God bless him.

I lived next door to Gordon as a child. I have really good memories of him and Joan and Julie. He was kind and fun and a great neighbour. Condolences to Julie and family. Beverley Beaumont (Galvin)
