RobertGLAVEYof Helmshore passed away peacefully at East Lancashire Hospice on April 2, aged 80. The much-loved husband of Christine; father to Karen, Peter and Daniel; and grandfather to Ryan, Jake, India, Ines, Tovia, Hollie and Matilda. Father-in-law to Craig, Deborah and Angela. Born in Wells, Somerset, he was raised in Edenfield. He studied to become a mechanic and worked for Cordingleys in Haslingden, where he met Christine. He also worked at Lords of Rossendale and other garages in the area. Bob had always wanted to be a lorry driver, but his dad encouraged him to learn a trade first. Later in life he fulfilled that ambition, working for McAlpines driving tipper trucks and water bowsers while helping to build the M65. He then went on to B. Barnes & Son, where he spent many years as a long-distance driver. Later he worked at Direct UK before retiring. He enjoyed playing cards on a Friday night with his two best friends, David and Dennis, and loved his holidays, travelling far and wide. Bob's funeral will take place at Burnley Crematorium on Monday, April 20 at 10.45am. Donations in his memory are being collected for East Lancashire Hospice and Rossendale Hospice.
