ElaineGLENDINNINGElaine died peacefully in her sleep at Belmont View Care Home, Guisborough, on December 27th, shortly before her 97th birthday. After a long life well lived, her passing was a blessed relief.

Predeceased by her beloved husband David in 2014, Elaine will be greatly missed by her children Ian, Jane and Andrew, and by their families. She will also be fondly remembered for her selfless care and friendship by many in the Guisborough community, where she lived for over 70 years, and by generations of pupils she taught as a primary school teacher in Marske-by-the-Sea (Errington) and in Guisborough (Highcliff, formerly Newstead).

Funeral service will be held at St Nicholas' Church, Guisborough, on Thursday January 8th at 1.15pm, followed by a wake and celebration of her life. Burial will take place at Guisborough Cemetery on Friday January 9th at 12.30pm. All are welcome.

Family flowers only please. A collection plate will be available at church for donations in lieu of flowers, if so desired, for The Guisborough Bridge community support association.

I am very sad to hear this news. I have very fond memories of Mrs Glendinning. I was good friends with Jane and I spent many happy hours during my childhood at her house in Belmangate. She was such a lovely lady and will be missed in Guisborough by many people. Sending love and prayers to all the family. xxx

Mrs Glenndinning, as she was known to countless primary school pupils, was loved by us all. I can see her at the front of the class as clearly as in 1988 when I first arrived in Guisborough. I remember her for being incredibly kind to a newly arrived, nervous pupil, and for being one of the most inspiring and innovative teachers I ever had. How many other teachers would see it was snowing outside and decide spontaneously that we would commandeer some of the canteen tables and pull them around the playing field upside down pretending to be on Shackleton's escape across Antarctica? This is the stuff that transforms children. I will be forever grateful to have been one of Mrs Glenndinning's pupils. And send love to all her family and friends at this sad time, and in celebration of a wonderful lady and life well lived.
