Josephine JoGREENAged 73, died on Saturday 8th September 2018 in the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford from secondary bone cancer following several years of remission from breast cancer. She had celebrated her 49th wedding anniversary two weeks earlier and leaves her husband, Michael, daughter, Miranda, son, Clayton and five grandchildren. Born in Chertsey in October 1944 where her father served as the village policeman. Jo attended school in Ottershaw and Sir William Perkins, Chertsey during which time she also met her future husband. After working for a short time as a trainee buyer at Harrods, and attending evening classes at Guildford Tech, she gained a place at Gypsy Hill Teachers Training college. Her first teaching job was in Brighton. After getting married at Christ Church, Ottershaw in August 1969 the couple moved to Manchester where Jo taught at a primary school in Sale, Cheshire. This was followed by a move back to Surrey where Jo spent many happy years teaching at the Grange, New Haw. Jo loved to chat. She would talk to anyone but she was also a very good listener and had a remarkable capacity for remembering names, faces and family history. After retiring Jo spent much of her time looking after grandchildren but in her spare time met with ex teachers for lunch, was a member of the U3A and a book circle, which was not so much about discussing the book but more about tea and cake. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on 9th October 2018 at Christ Church, Guildford Road, Ottershaw. Family flowers only by request and donations if desired to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices c/o Lodge Brothers Tel: 01932 355897.
