I was very sorry to hear of Dicks passing. I first knew him in early 1970s when I used to send him briefs or was on the opposite side of his fine mind. He was one of a group of counsel from his chambers I used to instruct. A group who have not been equalled. One of the nicest and most educated men I ever met. I once asked him to object to a juror who had been my French master and he did so in French. Please pass condolences from myself and those remaining in Carlisle who knew him. John Corson.

Dick came to my school to give a talk about life at the bar when I was 15.He then kindly took me with him for a day to watch the Crown courts at St Georges Hall.
A wonderful opportunity.
He was always a gentleman.
I recall with some amusement his worry after I had been called to the bar that I was joining “new” chambers in Liverpool.
I will remember him fondly.
District Judge Wendy Lloyd.

He was my first Head of Chambers, a position I now occupy as his latest successor. Always friendly, clever, engaging and with a ready smile, he will be missed. On my own behalf, and on behalf of Exchange Chambers, sincere condolences to Dick's family. May he rest in peace.
