ChantalHARRINGTONIt is with great sadness we announce that Chantal died at her home in York Street on 25 October 2025 at the age of 76. Chantal was greatly loved by her late husband Sean, who referred to her as "a pearl beyond price". She was also very much loved by her two sisters-in-law and by her nieces and nephews. "Mama Chantal" had an enormous capacity to love and care for others, embracing staff and clients at Freedom from Torture with her love and laughter. She will be very much missed.
Friends are invited to join the family for a service at West London Crematorium at 2:00pm on the 15th December, and afterwards at a reception at The Duke of Wellington in Crawford Street. Dress should include a touch of glamour, to reflect Chantal's love of clothes and pzazz. No flowers please, but donations in Chantal's memory may be made to Freedom from Torture www.freedomfromtorture.org . Donations may also be made at the service or sent to the funeral directors, Ronald P Sherry, 25 Bell Street, London NW1 5BY.

I was given the same first name as my aunt, a small but meaningful link. Although our paths never crossed, I have long been aware of her place in our family, and I was saddened to learn of her passing. I am thinking of her today and sending my sympathy to all who knew her, family and friends.

My name is Rose, and I am her niece, the youngest daughter of her brother, Roger. I have only just learned of her passing with great sadness. I never had the chance to know my aunt personally, but I always felt a quiet connection to her. She left her home country very young to make a life in England, and many years later I found myself drawn here too, when I came to study. At one point, I tried to find her, hoping we might finally meet, but sadly it was not meant to be. I would have loved to know her. I am holding her in my thoughts today and sending my deepest sympathies to all who loved her.

Dear family and friends,

Although I never had the chance to meet Aunt Chantal in person, I am deeply saddened by her passing. I know how much she meant to those who loved her, and I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to everyone who is grieving this loss.

May the memories of her kindness and presence bring comfort in the days ahead. Even from afar, I share in your sorrow and hold you all in my thoughts. May we find strength together in honoring her life and the love she gave so generously.

With compassion and care,

I knew Chantal for many years when I was a volunteer psychotherapist at freedom from Torture. She did an amazing job running the reception and so much more. She brought flowers in I understand at her own expense, made wonderful arrangements, often prepared food for people in the staff room and parties. She offered little rescue
Packs for destitute asylum seekers, had a store of clothes to offer and warmth and kindness to the survivors I helped and many others. Calm, organised, very committed to those we tried to help on the front line. I saw her at a gathering I organised last year in Cambridge and was so happy to see her and spend time with her.
We shared a love for nice perfumes, beautiful cosmetics and she was stylish. I shall miss her and our chats so much.she is a great loss to so many of us. Sally Wolfe
