AgnesHLADUN (NEE WELLS)of Great Harwood, passed away on January 26 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Nestor, a dear sister-in-law, a much loved aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving sibling of ‘The Wells’ family of Greaves Street, Great Harwood. On leaving school Agnes began work in the shoe trade, mostly as a clicker. She worked at Ashworth’s Shoe Factory in Great Harwood and Donshu, Rishton from where she retired. She met her Ukrainian husband, Nestor in The Walmsley Pub, Great Harwood just after the Second World War. They married at St John’s Church, Great Harwood, where she was a life long member. They spent over 40 happy years together until Nestor passed away in 2000. She always enjoyed a social night out at the Leisure Hour, Great Harwood, firstly with Nestor and other family members and later with her friends. Until recently she could often be seen walking up and down Queen Street, looking for bargains and chatting with old friends. She had many tale to tell about life in Great Harwood over the years. She had many nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. She loved hearing about all of them, enjoyed their visits and phone calls and spending time with their families. She will be missed by them all. A service will be held on Friday, February 10 at St Bartholomew’s and St John’s Church, Great Harwood at 10.45am. Followed by interment at Great Harwood Cemetery.
