BarbaraHOLDEN22nd January 1928 - 28th February 2019 Passed away peacefully on Thursday 28th February, Barbara, aged 91. Dearly loved wife of the late Thomas Holden, much loved Mother of Paul, Pamela and Philip Stephen, dear Mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all her family. Due to the war being on, Barbara left school at the age of 14 to go to work. In her 40's, she went back to study at night school and graduated from Lancaster University and was presented with her degree by Princess Alexandra at the age of 48. Proud of her achievements, she then embarked upon a career that she loved and became a teacher at St Wilfred's High School. Barbara was an active lady, enjoying walking 3 miles each day, ballroom dancing at Taylors Dance in Accrington, swimming and diving as well as needlecraft where she would embellish her own ballgowns. She travelled world-wide and loved cruise holidays with her late husband Tom Holden, always living life to the full. A lifelong member of Rishton Parish Church, Barbara was also an active member of both the Church and the Mothers Union. Barbara's family owned and ran Donshu Footwear Ltd, Rishton. Barbara's funeral service will take place on Monday 18th March 2019 at St Peter & St Paul's Church, Rishton at 10.45am prior to interment at Great Harwood Cemetery. Family flowers only.
