AnneHOLDEN(nee Manning) Born in January 1934, Anne spent her early life in Edgeside, attending St Peter’s School, Newchurch and Alston College, Burnley. She spent her career as a secretary at TMM Research (latterly Platt Saco Lowell) and TNT. Anne married Fred in 1955, with whom she spent over 40 years of happy married life, largely based in Haslingden. She is survived by two children, Stephen and Sharon, son-in-law Michael, five grandchildren Jonathon, Natalie, Edward, Robert and Olivia, along with five great-grandchildren Nancy, Frankie, Jorgie Mae and Ruby. Anne was the last surviving sibling of five children born of the late George and Ellen Manning. Namely Michael, Kevin, Bridget and Maria the former of whom was the founder of the now iconic pie and sandwich shops bearing the Manning name and also an esteemed former Mayor of Rossendale. Her Catholic faith was a constant unassuming part of her life. She attended both St Veronica’s and St Mary’s, Haslingden almost every Sunday of her life. A visit to the Vatican was a lifetime ambition fulfilled in 2008. Anne’s other passion, when she finally had leisure time in later life was ballroom dancing at Platts Social Club, Accrington and the IDL Club, Haslingden. She enjoyed crown green bowling in Victoria Park, Greenfield and Worsley Park, and served as treasurer for 10 years only relinquishing her responsibilities in 2020. Anne passed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on November 21, aged 88 years, where she received exceptional care. A Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday, December 7, 10am at St Mary’s RC Church, followed by a burial at Haslingden Cemetery, officiated by Fr. John Broadley. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Anne to Francis House Children’s Hospice, c/o funeral director: Caroline Holden-Dewhurst for Johnson Durning & Woods, Haslingden.
