Mary LilianHOUSDENMary, beloved mother of Andrew and Penelope, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday 8th July. Hers was a long life of nearly 103 years, lived with energy, humour, courage and staying power.
Mary trained for hurdling at the 1940 Olympics, served her country in the ATS during the subsequent war, raised her two children on her own after the tragic premature death of her husband Ronald in 1967, was employed as the secretary in the regional office of a national company but had become an unofficial adviser and almost a manager by her retirement, and from the 1960s to the 2020s wrote eight books, two novels, two screenplays and numerous poems, articles and short stories. She was also known for her fine pastry and her high standard of knitting of clothes and character figures!
Though the world is the poorer for her passing, she and her love for her children will remain in their hearts forever.
