Robert JosephJONESChelmsford Star Co-operative Party members were saddened by the news of the recent passing of Robert Jones, aged 82. Robert had been Chair of the Party for a number of years and an active member of Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society. He was a genuine and well-informed co-operator and devoted much of his time and effort to leading and supporting practical co-operative initiatives for the benefit of our community. In particular, he was a founder member of the Chelmsford Community Volunteer Service, convening and encouraging a team of charities to work together. The Community Transport scheme was an off-shoot of this and Robert was a leading member of the group which initiated the scheme in Chelmsford. In his career, and his retirement, he developed a dedicated interest in the environment helping to form the Chelmsford Environment Partnership and playing a leading role in supporting practical environmental and co-operative initiatives to promote car sharing, monitoring air quality and the Marconi Ponds Wildlife Park. Robert was also a keen supporter of Chelmsford City Fairtrade Campaign and will be warmly remembered, along with his wife Prue, for holding several Fairtrade breakfasts at their home and for devising a recipe for a delicious, rich fruitcake using only Fairtrade products. Robert will be remembered with great appreciation by Chelmsford Star Co-operative Party members. He will be sadly missed.
