JOSEPH ETTEDGUIBritish fashion designer Joseph Ettedgui died aged 71 on March 17, 2010.
He was the son of a French-Moroccan furniture retailer, moving to London in 1960 and training as a hairdresser. But he turned to fashion and opened his first shop in the early 70s, below his salon in Chelsea's King's Road.
The Joseph label was established soon after and he opened more than 20 shops in the UK and Europe.
Tributes included Miucca Prada, who said his shops were "amongst the most beautiful in the world" and Christian Lacroix who praised his "natural and successful alchemy between hard nosed business and avant garde art".
