MargaretKERRMargaret "Peggy" Kerr, 104, of Glasgow passed away peacefully at home on 18 March 2026, with family by her side. Peggy was born Margaret Kelly on 9 September 1921 to Charles and Catherine Kelly (née Jamieson) in Partick, Glasgow. On 14 December 1942, she married John Henry Laurence Kerr, whom she met while he was stationed in Kilmarnock serving with the Royal Artillery. They were married for 56 years and had two sons. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a warm and approachable friend to everyone she met.

In her late teens Peggy worked making marzipan sweeties at Birrell Confectionery, but switched to munitions work during the Second World War. In the 1950s and 60s she worked as a department manageress in D M Hoey on Maryhill Rd. Peggy was an elder in the Church of Scotland at Kelvin Stephenson Memorial Church where she was very active in the Women's Guild, in which she loved organizing and attending events and outings, and also in the Voyagers Club where she enjoyed hearing about travels all over the world. She remained very active, at church, playing bowls, and traveling to the USA to visit family, well into her late 80s and early 90s when her mobility declined. A woman of strength and independence, she lived alone and with minimal assistance until the final year of her life.

Peggy is survived by her son Alan Kerr (Brenda), grandsons Iain Kerr (Samantha) and Andrew Kerr (Olga), granddaughter-in-law Anastasia Tibaldi, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, son Brian Ross Kerr, daughter-in-law Margaret Kerr (née Whitehouse), and grandsons Euan David Kerr and Gavin Kerr.

Services for Peggy will be held on Friday, 3 April 2026 at 11:30am in the newer small chapel at Glasgow Crematorium, The Western Necropolis Cemetery, 19 Tresta Rd, Glasgow G23 5AA. Family and friends are welcome to join the family for refreshments following the service at Leonardo Hotel Glasgow West End.

In lieu of flowers the family would suggest a donation to Breast Cancer Now at breastcancernow.org/ or Banardos charity at www.barnardos.org.uk

While I didn’t know her personally, she sounds like a wonderful person. I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss I wish I got to meet her in this lifetime.
