JoanKOWALSKIBorn in Wood Street, Hapton on September 28, 1927 to Pat and Sally Doherty, Joan Kowalski nee Doherty, was the younger sister to Mary and Alan. She attended St John the Baptist RC School in Padiham. She left school at 14 years of age as was normal in those days, and went to work for the Padiham Advertiser. She met her future husband to be Jozef Kowalski at a dance at Accrington Con Club. They were married on May 13, 1950 at St John’s, Padiham. Jozef sadly passed away in March 1998. They had one child, Paul. Joan went on to work as a book binder at Hamilton’s Printers, Trafalgar Street, Burnley where she remained for many years until she retired. She lived in Hapton all her life and latterly resided in Woodside Care Home, Padiham. Sadly, Joan fortified with the Rites of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Monday, February 15, aged 93. May she rest in peace. She leaves her son Paul and grandchildren Brandon, Freya and Freeman. Her first grandchild Liam sadly passed away in October 2017, aged only 27. Joan’s funeral service was due to be held on Thursday, February 25 in St John’s RC Church Padiham, followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.
