Mike - a warm and gentle soul. A true leader of St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School. As our Chair of Governors you were unwavering in ensuring that the children, staff and families were at the heart of every decision you made. As a school community, we continue to blossom and grow from strength to strength and we will be forever grateful for the way in which you nurtured us and more importantly believed in us. You made your mark as a pupil and as a governor. 💙

Good night God bless Mike

Claire & all within your St Cuthbert's family xx

Mike Laird was a very successful and proud ex-pupil of St.Cuthbert's school. His legacy to us, as a governor and then Chair of Governors of the Federation of St. Cuthbert and St. Sebastian Catholic Primary Schools was to save his school against what seemed like impossible odds. Even though he appeared a quiet man he was a terrier behind the scenes in saving his school that he grew up in.He was a privotal figure with Fr. Kelly and the new federated headteacher that he welcomed and supported to St.Cuthbert's, to save their school. He not only did this but was at the forefront of having an amazing new St.Cuthbert's school built. I can still see his HUGH smile on the Open Occasion we had to say goodbye to the OLD school and showing off the NEW St. Cuthbert's with a hugh amount of pride to past and present pupils and parents with Mike Mannion another ex-St.Cuthbert's pupil and fellow governor. Mike Laird was such a gentleman in so many different ways . The whole school community are indebted and grateful to Mike for not only saving the school and building a new one but for the quality and high standards it stands for. Thanks Mike it was a privilege to work alongside you. Rest in Peace. Dennis Hardiman M.B.E. previous Headteacher[2006-2020] of the Federation of St.Cuthbert and St.Sebastian Catholic Primary Schools Liverpool .

Michael was a Lifetime friend born four days apart and lived three houses apart fond memories of being chased around the garden by a bull that had escaped from Stanley Abbattoir as we got older bunking in to the Speedway through my garden to watch our local Peter Craven roar around the track many other exploits in a friendship that lasted 81 years. Rest in peace my friend.
