AliceLAWPassed away on April 14 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 90 years. Wife of the late Ian, Alice was born in Glasgow but grew up in Devon. She met her husband at a dance in Torquay and after a long-distance romance made the move up to Lancashire to get married. Alice was blessed with many talents, skilled at dressmaking, knitting, cooking, gardening, painting and decorating. She would have a go at anything, really. Alice started her working life at Mullards in Waterfoot, a job she loved, where she made many friends. Later in life she was a machinist in the textile and footwear industries. After retirement she spent precious time with her family and enjoyed holidays abroad and in the UK, in Devon or Scotland. Alice leaves her daughter Maxine, son-in-law Philip, grandchildren Jessica and Michael and their respective partners Oliver and Sophie with four precious great-grandchildren, Darcy, George, Beth and Alice. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 30, with prayers offered in Fred Hamers, Rawtenstall at 1.45pm, followed by a cremation service at Burnley Crematorium at 2.30pm, conducted by Rev. David Burrow. Family flowers only, with any donations to the Christian Youth Charity, Vision. Alice was a wonderful cousin - known to our mum and dad as ‘Little Al’. But in truth, although little in stature, she was ‘Big Al' - a lady with a big, welcoming heart. We enjoyed our visits to Waterfoot - in the early years taking three buses from Standish, near Wigan. While we waited for return visits by Alice, Ian and Maxine - in their car! Each time we met up was a time of fun and reminiscing - days gone by in South Devon, life in Waterfoot and events at the mission. Always topped off with super food - especially Alice's cheese and onion pie! (Plus Alice and dad always sneaked out for a crafty fag).
Another link in our long family chain has been broken … it’s up to those who are left behind to re-forge the link to make sure it continues for generations to come.
Thank-you Alice for being a great, lovely big cousin. Your love for us will still continue in our hearts.
Malcolm and Barbara, Pat and Janet.
