David JohnLEWISDai It is with regret that we announce the death of David John Lewis on 21.10.2021 at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. David was the loving husband of 54 years to Mary and father to his much beloved daughter Susan. Prior to retiring David was an Engineer who also took a role as union Steward. He was also a Freeman of Llantrisant. David was born on the 25/08/1942 at Romilly Nursing home in Cardiff, he was brought up in Llanharan and Brynna. He married Mary in March 1967. Initially living in Church Village moving to Beddau in 1974. David as a teenager worked for Mr Len Jones a local butcher before going to college at School of Mines at Treforest (now University of South Wales) He worked in various companies as an Engineer in South Wales, his last company was the Ford Engineering plant in Bridgend. Throughout his life David enjoyed various activities such as watching Rugby and Cricket (which he played as a young man). He enjoyed attending the Rugby World Cup with his daughter in 1999 He particularly enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, He was an avid reader and enjoyed the talks at the Community Library Monday club. He continued to enjoy growing his Dahlias, but regretted not being able to continue with his beloved allotment. Following retirement, he enjoyed visiting many countries with his wife Mary. One of his most enjoyable experiences was catching Salmon off the Alaska coast, (picture above). David's wishes were for no funeral service but cremation, there will not be a funeral service. He will be cremated by Pure Cremations and his ashes scattered beneath his roses and with the family pets and where he used to watch local wildlife, in particular the birds he used to feed. To celebrate David's life, a tea party memorial will be held on Monday 13th December 2021 at 10.30am at Tynant and Beddau Community Library on Parish Road.
