I was so sorry to learn of Mike Long’s passing. I had known and respected Mike for many years prior to my joining the staff of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors back in 2007 where he was Chairman of the Health and Safety committee and was my predecessor as Chairman of the HSE’s Advisory Committee for Roofwork. Mike subsequently became President of the NFRC in 2008 and my one abiding memory of him in 2010 was his manic driving of a fork lift during the setting up of the International Roofing Competition hosted by the NFRC in Belfast. With a limited timescale to have the test rigs ready for the UK and foreign teams he was certainly not taking any prisoners on that occasion!
He was passionate about health and safety, training and standards in his industry and he was such a knowledgeable, kind and lovely man to boot. Rest peacefully with Vinny Mike.

A very sad passing of a fantastic person in many ways and all aspects .
Amongst other passions, Mike was a real driving force for constant change and improvement to the Roofing Industry that He dedicated so much of his working time to. He will be sorely missed but always fondly remembered by those who knew him. I was one of those privileged to have done so over the last 38 years. Andy Green
