The obituary notice of Derek Michael MANLEY

Derek, or as I used to call him, Mr Manley, was my primary school teacher at Norton back in the mid-80s.
The years passed by and I haven’t seen him since being that boy but I ran into him and his wife at Tesco in Churchdown in 2014. I instantly recognised him and said, ‘Hello, Mr Manley! Do you remember me?’ He replied, ‘How forget those dark eyes, your Garry Davies! I was taken back.’ He also reminded me that I once told him, ‘When I grow up, I’m going to run you over in my big new Mercedes.’ I laughed with him and said, ‘I can remember saying that.’ He laughed too, and when I said, ‘Well, I managed to get the big new Mercedes; so anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

He was a firm teacher, but he was a good one—he had to be to put up with me! I turned out pretty good .
Hopefully, he will be my teacher in the next life .
RIP Mr. Manly.

A year has passed. Still can’t believe that it has been a year. Thank you to all those who have visited this site. Joyce remains well looked after in her nursing home and is frail but happy with dementia. We continue to remember Dad/ Derek with love. Looking forward to celebrating a wonderful Christmas, as Dad would have wished. X

Derek and I were very good friends. We shared a room in our first year at college. I had the privilage to be his best man when he married Joyce and then some time later he was my best man at my wedding and he was brilliant. We have kept in touch since perticularly at Christmas but when we both had young families we had a few holifays together in Cornwall. I've lost a good friend.
