Jack was born in Stacksteads on 17 February 1934, the son of Elizabeth and Harry Martin. He grew up in Stacksteads where he attended, Tunstead, Western and Lea Bank Schools. On leaving school he took on an apprenticeship as a Sewing Machine Mechanic at Olive Mill where he met the love of his life, Margaret. A loving husband to Margaret, Jack was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together they raised 2 children, Elaine and Elizabeth. He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, love and lots of laughs. He cherished family gatherings and his presence on holidays and celebrations brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Jack had many passions in his life. He loved gardening and travelling but the one that filled his heart the most was the theatre, and in his 75 years at Bacup Royal Court Theatre he wore many hats varying from Cast member to Ticket Office Manager. In his later years he was appointed their Honorary President of which he was very proud.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Margaret, daughters; Elaine and Elizabeth, grandchildren; Gary, Andrew, Alan, Amy and Faye and their partners, great-grandchildren; Summer, Tyler, Joey, Avery and Rudy Jack. He also leaves his niece and nephew and he will be missed by his many friends and wider family.
